
Santa and the Tall Ships Story Competition
City Square has teamed up with the Munster Express and Graphic Image to create a unique Christmas story book. We are looking for school children to create their own original story involving Santa and the Tall Ships. The story can be about any element of Christmas but it must involve Santa and the Tall Ships in Waterford. The winning story will then be published and sold for charity in City Square.
Update:
Congrats to Lorna Dwyer, her story received the most votes. Lorna's story will now be made into a story colouring book. The story graphics will be produced by Graphic Image in Waterford.
It will be on sale in a few weeks time in City Square and all funds raised will go to the Sacred Heart Day Centre Early Intervention Service on Lady Lane in Waterford.
Thanks to all the children who took part and their teachers for helping them. We received a great response from schools across the region. Thanks also to the Munster Express for publicising the competition and to Text B[]X Design for their web design and technical expertise.
How to enter:
Any child/children in 4th, 5th & 6th class in the south east counties of Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Wexford can enter the competition through their school.
Children can enter on their own or in groups up to a maximum of 3 children.
The original story must be provided in the children’s own handwriting.
The teacher must submit the best 3 stories from each class.
All entries must include: children’s name/s, age, class, school & teacher.
The closing date for entries is Tuesday 15th Nov.

Prize & Proceeds
There is a €500 cash prize for the winning school.
Not only that, but the winning story will be published in a book with images designed for children to colour in. The books will be sold in City Square Shopping Centre before Christmas with proceeds going to Sacred Heart Day Centre Early Intervention Service on Lady Lane in Waterford.
Also the winning school will receive 250 copies of the book to sell for themselves, so giving an opportunity to raise further funds for the school.
Judging
Three finalists will be chosen by City Square Management, Early Learning Centre and a representative from the Munster Express. The three finalists stories will be placed on City-Square.ie and the public can log on to vote. The story with the most votes is the winner and their school will receive the cash prize.
Guidelines
The maximum length of the story is 250 words.
It is a children’s competition so no assistance from adults is permitted.
Plagiarism from other Christmas stories will result in entries being removed from the competition.
The winners and their school will be publicised in the local media.
The winners give up the rights to have their story published in book format by City Square.
The top 3 stories will be published in the Munster Express.
The judges decision in selecting the 3 finalists will be final.
